Who We Are

The primary focus of helping women and children in the Macon community is a well known fact about the Junior League of Macon. During the 2008-2009 league year, our membership voted to continue this commitment by narrowing our focus area to highlight children’s literacy, school readiness, and school partnerships.

During the rollout year of the new focus area, JLM will incorporate some new placement opportunities, as well as some old favorites, for League members.

A few key, community volunteer opportunities include:

  • Providing support and reading programs to Heritage Elementary students through the Heritage Helpers program of the Bibb County Public School System.
  • Providing health literacy and education to the Carl Thomas Club of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Georgia, thorough learning to read food labels and recipes and healthy snacks and exercise instruction.
  • Partnering with The Dollywood Foundation and the Downtown Macon Rotary Club to help Macon become a certified literate community and to research, establish, develop, and coordinate an Imagination Library program for preschool and elementary school age children in Middle Georgia.
  • Providing books and supplies to The Children’s Hospital Library, coordinating story times and events for the patients, and ensuring every child leaves the hospital with a new book and a love for reading.
  • Old favorites including Kid’s Boutique, Ms. Wizard, Women’s Symposium and Family Health Day, and Skills for Success will all continue to be part of JLM’s commitment to our community.
