Kid's Boutique-
Shopping for a Good Cause
January 01, 2008 - By Donna Roland, League Leaves Editor
Do you remember how exciting and fun it was to go shopping for new school clothes? For some of us ladies, any shopping continues to be fun and exciting, but what if you couldn’t afford to go shopping and get those new clothes? On Sunday, January 6th, the ladies of the Kids Boutique team, along with a group of teachers and parents, took 20 children from the Burdell-Hunt Magnet School shopping at JC Penney for much needed school clothing.
Kids Boutique is a JLM placement that partners with the Bibb County Public School System and the Mercer Panhellenic women to provide proper school clothing and supplies to a group of 20 children. Tanya Allen, Principal of Burdell-Hunt Magnet School and JLM member, worked with teachers and counselors to select four children from each grade (K-4) with greatest financial need. $3,000 was provided by JLM to purchase 20 $150 gift cards. The Kids Boutique team worked with Charlie Ethridge, JC Penney Manager, so that the children would also receive $15 off their purchase as well. In addition to the school clothing received, the Mercer Panhellenic women provided a backpack for each child, and a local church donated school supplies.
Kathleen Gillan, Kids Boutique Co-Chair, said “It was a very successful event with a great turnout. We received many thank yous and hugs from parents. It was feel-good event!"
