Thank you for your interest in the Junior League of Macon!

The Junior League of Macon is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The Junior League of Macon reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.

By concentrating our volunteer efforts, the Junior League of Macon will be a significant force in improving women's and children's health in the Middle Georgia community through education, fundraising, advocacy, and hands-on projects. We will enhance our effectiveness in the community by striving to maintain membership satisfaction.

How do I join?
In order to become a member of JLM, one must be proposed for membership by four other JLM members. You and your endorser or sponsor must attend an informational meeting in April 2008 where you will learn more about the benefits of membership in the league as well as financial and service obligations.

What is the criteria for joining JLM?
A prospective member of JLM:
- Must have 1 sponsor and 3 endorsers who are members of the JLM
- Candidates for membership into the 2008-2009 Provisional Class must be at least 22 years of age on December 31, 2008. She must reside within a 30 mile radius of Macon’s City Hall for 12 consecutive months prior to May 1, 2008.
- Must have an interest in community service
- Must have a strong interest in voluntarism

What is a Provisional Member of JLM?
The Provisional Member is a woman who participates in a year long training class to orient herself with the league and its activities. Once this training has completed, she will become an active member of the league.

What is an Active and Sustaining Member of the JLM?
Active Members are those members who have completed Provisional training and justify active membership by demonstrating volunteer service to their communities and their Leagues. Sustaining Members are those members who have fulfilled the active membership requirements, are at least 40 years of age, and have served a minimum of 5 years as an active member OR have served 10 active years in Junior League with 5 active years in the Junior League of Macon.

What is the time commitment and financial obligations?
A Provisional member of the JLM must complete the Provisional Course which runs August through May. There is a Provisional retreat in August and monthly meetings that run September through April. There is also monthly Membership Meeting which runs September through May. Once a Provisional becomes an Active member, she will sign up for a placement. Each placement has a different time commitment, and some are busier during certain times of the year. Overall requirements include volunteer work, meeting attendance (Provisional and Membership meetings), fundraising projects (support and shift work of Market Place and Le Tour of Kitchens), the payment of annual dues, Provisional course fee, Market Place tickets, and Le Tour of Kitchens tickets.

Endorser and Sponsor Requirements
Each prospective member must have a sponsor and 3 endorsers. Two of the 4 sponsors or endorsers must presently be an active member of the League. If the prospective member is a child of an Active Sustaining member of JLM, only 1 of the sponsors or endorsers must be an active member of the league. Active members and any member who have completed their provisonal year in good standing may sponsor 1 and endorse 1 prospective member or endorse 2 prospective members. Senior Status and Sustaining members in good standing may sponsor 1 and endorse 1 prospective member or endorse 2 prospective members. The sponsor must personally have known the prospective member for 1 year.
